Palazzo Fava: Factors and humanity translated into painting

Palazzo Fava in Bologna is one of the most famous architectural structures in the Emilian capital and has hosted various exhibitions of modern and contemporary art since 2011.

Currently, the historic building houses the exhibition of the works of Giovanni Fattori, a famous nineteenth-century painter and sensitive exponent of the Macchiaioli movement.

“Humanity translated into painting”, the exhibition dedicated to the works of the genius from Livorno, will be present at Palazzo Fava until May 1, 2023.

Faces and places by Giovanni Fattori

Giovanni Fattori was a well-known Tuscan painter and engraver, a forerunner of the pictorial techniques developed by the Impressionists.

The movement of which he was the greatest exponent, the Macchiaioli, represented a totally new artistic style: with them, in fact, painting freed itself from an apparently dutiful narration, leaving free rein to the aesthetic datum.

The goal of Fattori and the Macchiaioli has always been to translate humanity into painting by depicting the true and the tangible, savoring open spaces and letting oneself be inspired by painting en plein air.

At Palazzo Fava, visitors can therefore admire the play of light that inspired the Impressionists: the effects of shadows on a wall, sunlight on the sea, the interpretation of a moment capable of lasting forever.
